CELINE SUNNIES

Even though its 40 degrees and rainy in NYC today, I decided to treat myself to a little spring shopping. Since the death of my last (and favorite) pair of sunglasses I finally splurged on the Celine shades I've been wanting for almost a year now. If only I looked as good in them as the chic model in the ad does... here's to hoping for warm, sunny weather!

CHUCK CLOSE

For the past 6 months or so I've been obsessed with documentaries. I've actually watched over 100 at this point. So many great ones, I'll post a list of my favorites eventually. Last week I watched 'Chuck Close: A Portrait in Progress'. Watch the trailer below.

I've always been a huge fan of Chuck Close's portraits and am fascinated by his process (especially in his later pieces after he became a paraplegic). His body of work consists of portraits that have been classified as realist, minimalist and abstract expressionist, but as the documentary proves, his commitment to his vision and his evolving techniques defy any simple categorization. I think its a really poignant study on contemporary art in general, specifically abstract art. I've heard so many friends look at work by artists like Rothko, Tuttle, Eva Hesse and even Basquiat and say, "I could do that". Chuck Close's incredible later work proves that abstract art is about the process, its about the tiny fragments or disjointed parts that come together to create a whole. It's about the artist's vision and how that vision is interpreted by its viewers. I think this documentary does a really good job showing what lies at the core of abstract art. Close is a visionary and it's really amazing to watch him in the studio at work. Here are a few of my favorite Close pieces. Watch the documentary on Netflix and iTunes.

I'M BACK!

After a month-long blog hiatus spent in Texas, I've returned.

The Row F/W '11 (Left to Right: Look #6, Look #11, Look #12)

The Row FW '11 collection basically blew my mind. Especially the leopard print cashmere slippers they featured in some of my favorite looks. The solid black and leopard print shoes were made in collaboration with TOMS and will surprisingly retail for around $150-- which is a pretty shocking (and amazing) price point for The Row. I have no doubt they will sell out quickly and the line is really exclusive and only sold in a handful of stores in the US. So for anyone who doesn't want to get on a waiting list or search the country for a pair, you might want to consider the Topshop version-- they only cost $105!

It's no secret that one of my biggest weaknesses is buying jeans. I'm a self-proclaimed jeans girl and I'm always looking out for the best new brands and silhouettes. Lately I'm all about a high-waisted fit. I was skeptical at first but I've really discovered that high-rise pants are almost always flattering. They sit at the skinniest part of your waist and make your legs look miles long. This style is also perfect for the cropped blouses that are everywhere lately and great for tucking in slim oxford shirts.
